HEALTH & SAFETY SUBWARDEN

My roles were to assist the residence and students in terms of safety and health within the residence; to plan residence events such as the fire drill; and do admin duties for the residence such as signing in students into the building, etc.

COURSE TUTOR
UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN
I was a course tutor for Introduction to Electrical Engineering and Signals & Systems I. My roles were to instruct students on how to conduct lab sessions as well as oversee them; mark tutorials and tests of students; tutor students during hotseat (tutorial) sessions and to invigilate during tests and exams.

Skills Gained: Teaching and Mentoring skills allowing me to better convey my knowledge to others as well as understanding their needs better.

My role was to learn about the Asset Management Landscape, which taught me the fundamental principles of asset management and why asset management is important. I also had to develop a trade accreditation tool to assist the company in identifying what qualifications are needed by contractors for specific jobs. I developed the tool in MS Excel using VBA coding and presented it to the company once complete.

Skills Gained: Asset management knowledge giving me a better
understanding on how assets of companies should be managed; VBA coding for Excel; Time management skills allowing me to make more efficient use of my time.

I assisted in the installation of lights and new sensors as well as switchboard maintenance for school buildings.

UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN
I worked with a panel of five other people, including the warden of the residence, to make judgements and decisions on how to discipline the members of the residence who were accused of breaking the residence rules.
Skills Gained: Observation and perceptiveness allowing me to better judge people’s characters and what they say.

UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN
My role was to help new university students with the transition from high school to university as well as to be a support system and guide for students in need within the faculty and residence.
Skills Gained: Mentoring, empathy and perspective allowing me to understand where people come from, their different points of view and how to help these people.

IT AND MAINTENANCE SUBCOMMITTEE

My duty was to ensure the building and equipment were kept in good condition and report any faults/damages if found.
